There is a general misconception that cosmetic procedures, like having fillers for lips injected (a la Kylie Jenner and many other famous ladies), are only designed for women. But lip fillers for men are rising in popularity. In this post, we discuss why and answer all of your questions about the treatment.
While men may not be the traditional client for lip filler procedures and other dermal fillers, it doesn’t mean that they are any less susceptible to the effects of ageing.
Men get frown lines and decreases in collagen production just as women do, and are also likely to want to do something about it. We’ll disuss the differences for both genders when getting this treatment a bit later…
There has been a growing number of men interested in having fillers in the lips because they, like women, lose definition, shape and plumpness in their lips.

Why are men starting to get lip filler?
As the way we look on the outside has a big impact on how we feel on the inside, older men often feel less confident due to uneven or thin lips. They want to look younger and have lips with a fuller and balanced look.
While social media and the selfie culture we have nowadays have played a part in the rise of men seeking cosmetic surgery, men are as image-conscious as women in many respects.
Just as women have the aforementioned Kylie Jenner and others that they want to have similar a similar lip shape to, men most commonly want to have filler for lips similar to Harry Styles, Channing Tatum, Henry Cavill and Brad Pitt.

It’s been highlighted briefly already, but men, much like women, are very conscious of their looks.
Social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have meant that even the average Joe feels more under pressure than ever before to look their best.
When you see lips fillers before and after images, you can see just how much of a difference it can make.
Couple the pressure to look their best with their battles with self-confidence and self-esteem due to the effects of ageing and it’s no wonder why lip enhancement dermal filler treatment is the latest in a long line of cosmetic procedures that have become popular among men.
Are Lip fillers popular amongst men?
Plastic surgery shows no signs of being any less popular, with more than 17 million people having some “work done”.
As noted earlier, while the majority of those seeking out dermal fillers and other treatments are female, there is a growing number of men.
Whereas there may have been stigma attached to it or men may have felt lip enhancements for just women, all of that has changed and men are constantly trying to look their best.
Can men have lip fillers?
Although it may not be as common, there is no real reason why male patients can’t have fillers.
Lip filler isn’t only designed to only work well with women’s mouths and because the dermal fillers in the lip injections are completely natural, it is not dangerous for men to have lip enhancement.
It works in much the same way and similarly, if a patient is unhappy with the result of changes their mind, the lip filler can be dissolved.
The only differences should be in how the practitioner applies the dermal filler to the male which we’ll discuss next…
What’s the difference between lip injections for males and those used for women?
As we are aware men’s lips are different in shape and size to women’s and therefore should be treated differently. Men’s lip structure tend to be flatter and wider with a more rectangular shape and less pronounced cupids bow.
Dr Zokaie’s natural lip lift treatment adapts to these differences as it follows each individual’s anatomy.
When treating men’s lips and in general, it is extremely important to work with the natural presenting anatomy of the lips.
To achieve a natural lip lift, men’s lips will tend to need flatter boluses for the tubercles with a wider extending linear threads to keep and maintain the natural rectangular shape.
As practitioners, our goal is to enhance what already exists rather than changing shapes and creating something new which can often look unnatural.

Therefore, it is important to keep men’s lips looking masculine and women’s as feminine (as long as this is what the patient wants, which is commonly the case).

Interestingly, when it comes to the actual chemicals used in lip fillers, there is no difference between the lip injections used for women and those used for men.
The fillers are the same, with Juvederm and Restylane among the most common.
Both these and many others consist of hyaluronic acid, which is present in both men and women’s bodies and helps to encourage and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.
Dosage is the only difference, as women desire plumper lips than men, they often need larger volumes of filler.
