Hair Loss Treatments

Finasteride

It is important to not see Finasteride as a miracle cure for baldness. However, it is an incredibly effective hair loss treatment for men.

We use this to treat baldness in men (but not women, as it increases levels of testosterone in the body and is shown to not be very effective for female hair loss in studies) whether it be patches of hair loss or receding hairlines.

Finasteride is a tablet that can provide improvements if taken daily.

How Finasteride Works

Often known by the branded version of the medication, Propecia, the pill works by preventing the thinning of your hair by prohibiting testosterone from being converted into Dihydrotestosterone) or DHT.

DHT, for the uninitiated, is a potent hormone that can shrink hair follicles and eventually completely stops hair from growing.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil is used to treat hair loss in men and women and is applied to the scalp.

The solution is different for men and women, we use a 5% solution for men and a 3% solution for women, however, both can provide results if used twice a day.

This is a topical solution you apply to the areas of your scalp where the hair is thinning out and there are signs of baldness.

How Minoxidil Works

Minoxidil is different from Finasteride, as it doesn’t block DHT or increase testosterone levels in the body making it an ideal hair loss treatment for women and men. It helps to reduce or completely stop hair loss in 4 key ways:

Extends the length of the growth phase of follicles
Stimulates follicles into the growth phase
Increases the flow of blood around the follicles
Reverses follicle miniaturisation

PRP Hair Loss Treatment

PRP treatment for hair loss is not only one of the most modern and cutting-edge offerings at Linia Skin Clinic, but also the strangest.

Admittedly, it is not the easiest to digest, but as it’s one of the most effective, we highly recommend it.

PRP Therapy involves your own blood being taken, then that blood being placed in a centrifuge machine along with a separation gel.

This gel will help, along with the high-speed spinning action of the centrifuge, to separate and isolate the plasma from the red blood cells rich in platelets.

The resulting product is what is known as PRP or platelet-rich plasma.

This is then injected into your scalp around the areas where hair loss is evident.

How PRP Works to Treat Hair Loss
The PRP injections help to stimulate new hair growth, by extending the growth cycle of existing hair, as well as rejuvenating the follicles.

According to scientific research and literature on the subject of PRP, it releases growth factors from the platelets, along with cytokines.

Who Will I See During My Consultation?

Linia’s london-based skin clinic is run by the Medical Director, Dr Simon Zokaie, BSc MBChB MRCP.

Qualifying from the University of Manchester in 2003, he then underwent his medical training in London. He gained membership to the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and subsequently spent over four years training in dermatology.

He has practised cosmetic dermatology since and offers his patients a variety of non and minimally invasive treatments to improve the appearance of their skin and to minimise the visible effects of premature skin ageing.

Dr Zokaie will listen to your needs during the consultation and, depending on the best course of action for you, will recommend a suitable treatment. These may include but aren’t limited to topical products, anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers to add volume to parts of the skin, including the lips and cheeks, and lasers, which tighten the skin on the face, jawline and submental area to smooth away wrinkles.

Dr Zokaie is passionate about standards in his practice and ensuring that he is at the forefront of the latest and most effective methods. Along with his day-to-day skin clinic work, he also attends as many conferences and meetings as he can.
