Facials are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments. One type of this procedure that has become extremely famous, thanks to the attention it has got in the media because celebrities like Kim Kardashian have undergone it, is the PRP facial.
You’ve likely heard about it – you may know it by its other name as the “Vampire Facial”.
If you’re intrigued by this fast, effective, and natural way of combatting the signs of ageing, though, there is more you can learn.
On this page, you will find the answers to the most commonly asked questions about PRP facials.
What is a PRP facial?
A PRP or a platelet-rich plasma facial treatment is a rejuvenation treatment for your skin that is an alternative to a surgical facelift. It is notable and has attracted a lot of interest because the procedure uses your blood.
Human blood is made up of four main components – the aforementioned platelets and plasma and white blood cells and red blood cells.
When you have the treatment, a small sample of your blood is taken and placed into a centrifuge. This spins the blood around and separates the plasma and platelets from the red blood cells.

A topical cream is used to numb the treatment area and then hyaluronic acid is used to ensure your skin is free from pigmentation and fully hydrated before the plasma is spread across your face.
That may sound difficult to stomach, but is an important part of the process.
Then incredibly small needles are used to make sure the platelet-rich plasma gets down deep into your skin. This technique is known as micro-needling.
If you are a follower of celebrity culture and/or the Kardashians, you may have seen the images of Kim with small red dots all over her face when she had this kind of facial.
It may look quite traumatic in pictures but is not painful.
What does a PRP facial do and what is it good for?
There are a variety of amazing benefits you can gain from having a PRP facial. (PRP hair loss treatment is also one of it’s uses)
The micro-needling technique is already associated with stimulating the growth and reproduction of collagen, but when it is combined with PRP, you are essentially getting a double whammy of a collagen boost.

Some of the most common and desirable benefits of PRP facials include:
Increased production of collagen
A Vampire facial stimulates the natural production of collagen by causing skin cell trauma.
Once your skin has been penetrated, its existing collagen will begin healing it over. While this is happening, new, healthier, and tougher collagen is being grown by your body.
Although it takes a few weeks for this new collagen to grow, you will notice almost instant skin tightening.
Better Moisture retention
As PRP facials will help improve the strength and thickness of your skin, they will also help to provide the necessary protection for the deeper skin layers.
This also helps to increase moisture retention and can help with unclogging your pores, which will mean your skin works better with moisturisers.
Improved Skin Texture and Tone
If you suffer from hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, scars resulting from a traumatic injury, surgical scars, acne scars and other types of skin texture or tone problems, PRP facials can help.
As noted above, because new skin cells are produced and new skin grows, you will see a noted improvement in your skin tone and texture, even just after one PRP session.
What is a PRP vampire facial?
A PRP vampire facial is the same thing as the above but with a different name. It is referred to as the vampire facial because of its use of blood particles. There is no difference in the basic technique.
A Micro-needling PRP facial is the same as a PRP facial and a PRP vampire facial.

It is only referred to as a micro-needling PRP facial to highlight that tiny needles are used to ensure the platelet-rich plasma penetrates deep down into the lower layers of your skin.
This is so that it can encourage your body to reproduce collagen and elastin to improve the quality of your skin.
What is a microneedling PRP facial?
A Micro-needling PRP facial treatment is the same as a PRP facial and a PRP vampire facial treatment.
How long does a PRP facial take to work?
As it is not surgery, visible results are a little slower initially.
Although it’s different from person to person, most people tend to see results like general skin tightening, fullness, and glow to their face within just a few days.
With time, the results for our clients will continue to improve.
The best thing is that those positive results can last for many months. You will need to have further PRP facials to maintain the positive results, but normally you only need to have it a few times a year.
In the first instance, depending on the condition of your skin and the kind of results you are looking to achieve, it is best to have a group of 4 to 6 treatments with intervals of two weeks in between each to allow your skin to recover.
How much does a PRP facial cost?
As with any other treatment, it depends on your own needs, whether you are a suitable candidate and how many treatments you decide to have based on the surgeon’s recommendations and your preference.
However, at Linia Skin Clinic, you can expect to pay:
Cost of a Full PRP Facial – £600 for a single treatment and £1,650 for 3 treatments
Cost of a full PRP facial and dermapen – £900 for a single treatment and £2,500 for 3 treatments.
Does PRP correct lost facial volume?

The short answer is no. Unfortunately, PRP facials cannot correct the loss of facial volume.
They have been devised to provide facial rejuvenation and offer similar effects to a surgical facelift, without going under the knife.
They can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other scarring and skin tone and texture issues.
By stimulating the natural production of collagen and elastin, you will notice an improvement in how your skin looks and feels, but won’t gain the volume you may be looking for.
To benefit from improved volume in your skin, you would need different treatments in addition to PRP facials.
Is a PRP facial safe?
When you are interested in any cosmetic procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical, you will want to know it’s safe.
Given this involves small injections into your face, it may sound painful or dangerous.
The truth is that although you might feel a slight amount of discomfort once you’ve had the treatment, this will only last for a couple of minutes.
Afterwards, there are very few side effects associated with the procedure.
Perhaps, though, you’ve heard the common misconception that having a PRP facial leaves you open to a higher risk of infection.
Although there is always a chance of side effects and infections when injections and chemicals are involved, the great thing about PRP facials is because they use the platelets and plasma from your blood, there is very little chance of you suffering an allergic reaction or an infection.
