Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment that is carried out using a specialised manual hand tool which holds a disposable microblade, and implants colour onto the skin.

At Linia Skin Clinic, our experienced technicians offer a friendly and professional microblading service for your eyebrows.

The art of tattooing the skin semi-permanently by adding pigment is termed microblading. But, this is not to be confused with eyebrow tattooing (we’ll explain the difference further in this post).

Historically, studies have shown that permanent and semi-permanent make up techniques have existed for centuries, but the trend has gained a lot of popularity in the last decade owing much to the rise of social media.

The prevalence of social media influencers in the beauty industry – many of whom have microbladed eyebrows – has taken this new treatment to a much wider audience.

The trend to microblade eyebrows saw a dramatic increase in demand around 2015 in Europe as well as the US. However, it has been a popular practice in Asia for many decades.

If you are not yet up to speed on the microblading eyebrows treatment, this page is for you. Here, we give you the lowdown on microblading and everything you need to know about this treatment we offer.

What is brow microblading?

Microblading is a cosmetic treatment where pigment is injected into the skin for a semi-permanent effect. The procedure looks similar to tattooing, but they are different.

While tattooing, the tattoo specialist uses a tattoo gun to penetrate the skin. In microblading, the brow artist uses a finer tool with fine needles to create hair strokes. It is usually done on top of the existing brow hairs.

Eyebrows microblading is not supposed to hurt as a numbing cream is part of the procedure. You will feel the needles pricking, but it should not hurt. If the procedure is painful, consider informing and changing your clinic or technician.

Microblading is a very personalized procedure since no two persons are given the same eyebrows. It is shaped according to the face shape of the client, making each eyebrow unique and individualized.

The pigment used in microblading is also kept as close to the natural brow color as possible.

The art of microblading is seen as the best solution for those who have thin eyebrows or suffer from alopecia. The hair strokes fill in the gaps in the brows and create a natural but full look.

It eliminates the need to keep up with its maintenance by investing in brow products such as brow pencil, tweezers, and gels, among others.

Before and After Pictures

How much does microblading cost?

The cost of microblading eyebrows depends on different factors. These include:

  • Where you are getting the procedure from
  • The type of eyebrows you desire, especially the thickness
  • The experience of the aesthetician

With that in mind, the average price of microblading is about £350. Unless stated otherwise, the stated price is inclusive of the appointment, the main procedure, and a top that is required after six to eight weeks.

When it comes to microblading, it is better to pay a little extra.

How long do microbladed eyebrows last?

Microbladed eyebrows typically last anywhere from 12 months to 18. But the longevity of the semi-permanent procedure also depends on a number of factors. These are:

  • Your skin type – On normal to dry skin, microblading can last up to 18 months. However, those with oily skin can expect it to last up to 12 months.
  • How well you follow the after-care instructions – During the healing process, after-care instructions are essential. Scratching at the ink can destroy the ink strokes in your brows and affect the longevity of the microbladed eyebrows.

Does microblading ruin your eyebrows?

A straightforward answer? No.

Microblading does not ruin your eyebrows or your eyebrow area in any way. In fact, the techniques and the expertise of the eyebrow technicians are so refined that microbladed eyebrows look natural and stunning.

Eyebrow tattooing, which is performed by permanent makeup artists, can potentially leave your eyebrow looking messy. The process is also called cosmetic tattooing.

This is because in cosmetic tattooing, the procedure is executed by a machine making it more mechanical. The lines can typically bleed, which means that the chances of getting a botched eyebrow are a strong possibility.

However, microblading is not associated with this problem. Our eyebrow expert uses a tool to draw each fine line. These fine hair strokes do not bleed out after healing. Instead, they fade out gradually.

The lines from microblading can take up to three years to fade away completely. There is very little chance of getting your eyebrow appearance ruined with this method. Especially if you seek out experts to do your session.

The risk is much greater if you let an unqualified, inexperienced or incompetent technician perform the procedure on you. It’s very important to do your research on who is performing your procedure.

Ideally, you should meet the practitioner in an appointment and ask for as much information as you can.

Are there any side effects of microblading?

Normally, when an experienced brow artist performs the procedure of microblading, there are no side effects. But the same cannot be said if you get the procedure from a technician with minimal experience.

  • A little discomfort is expected, but if the procedure is painful or you have adverse side effects such as allergy or bleeding, seek out a certified medical doctor immediately.
  • Some itchiness around the brow area.
  • You may experience light scabs depending on how sensitive you are and the technique used.
  • An extremely rare side effect is infection, but this is the case with any procedure that penetrates the skin and this treatment barely does, which makes infection very rare.
  • A potential side effect of frequent microblading is scarring in the brow area.

To avoid these side effects, find a skilled technician like ours at Linia Skin and schedule an appointment. This way, you can extend the longevity of the pigment and also avoid scarring around your brows.

Following the after-care instructions to the dot is paramount. This will significantly affect the overall healing process as well as the longevity of the newly microbladed eyebrows.

  • You will not be able to wash your eyebrows for up to a week. So if you wear a lot of makeup, it can be tricky. You can still use makeup wipes if you wish to continue with your skincare routine and makeup.
  • Avoid sun exposure during the healing process. This can change the color of the pigment considerably.

Other important information

  • Find the best and the most experienced brow artist that you can afford. This treatment performed badly will require you to go back very frequently. This is not only bad for your wallet. It may also leave a scar around the eyebrow area.
  • Ask questions! A credible technician will not hesitate to tell you what type of ink she or he will be using for the treatment. You should ask about their tools and the ink during the initial appointment. If they hesitate to talk about what they are using, you have every reason to find a different technician.
